The Chief of the Army Staff's secretariat oversees the ceremonial and operational leadership of the Pakistan Army from the GHQ, which is the army's command post.

The Pakistan Army comprises many administrative corps under director-generals' direction, rated major-general, and 10 branches under lieutenant-general's command. The Chief of the General Staff (CGS) oversees all army branches and the director-generals of the administrative corps. Every day on a routine basis, the chief of army staff receives direct reports from the chief of general staff, who typically leads the Army GHQ Staff.
