Positions Vacant At Anti Terrorist Court
Under Nawaz Sharif's administration, Pakistan established the Anti-Terrorism Court of Pakistan (ATC) in 1997 to handle cases involving terrorism.
The Anti-Terrorist Act of 1997 established the court, and it was amended on October 24, 1998, by the Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Ordinance, in response to a ruling by the Supreme Court that ruled that the majority of the Act's provisions were unconstitutional.
Nawaz Sharif passed the 25 August 1999 Pakistan Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Ordinance, which extended the ATC system to the entire nation, just before he was overthrown by Pervez Musharraf's coup.
Nawaz Sharif was found guilty after Pervez Musharraf's 1999 coup, and the ATC commuted his life sentence into exile in 2000.
Pakistan imposed a suspension on the death penalty after Musharraf resigned in 2008, and it remained in effect until 2012.
